Welcome to the UAB Department of Pathology website. The UAB
Department of Pathology provides extensive clinical services and
teaching while maintaining large and productive research
programs. Currently, the Department has more than $23 million
per year in extramural research funding and our clinical services,
including inpatient, outpatient and outreach, completes over 6
million procedures per year. Our training programs are among
the finest in the country and our faculty have achieved national
and international recognition in service, teaching and research.
The Chronicle of Higher Education
The Chronicle of Higher Education pointed readers to new data just
released from Academic Analytics. The UAB Pathology graduate program
is ranked among the top 3 programs in the country for faculty scholarship
and is included in a very prestigious cohort.
The for-profit company, owned in part by the State University of New
York at Stony Brook, recently compiled its third annual Faculty Scholarly
Productivity Index — a ranking of graduate programs at research
universities based on what purports to be the first objective measurement
of per-capita scholarly accomplishment. The measurement this year considers
the number of faculty in a given program, the number of books and journal
articles they have written, the number of times other scholars have cited
them, and the awards, honors, and grant dollars they have received. The
net result is a measure of overall faculty productivity compared to other
departments at other research institutions and indicates how doctoral
programs rank nationally. The UAB Pathology program ranked #3 nationally
